Nick

Hi, and welcome!

I'm Joe-Bernick (Nick). I'm an experienced software developer with a passion for using and investing in technology to make a positive impact on the world.

  • Born and raised in Haiti, I excel in fast-paced startup environments, managing teams and meeting deadlines. In addition to my technical proficiency, I'm passionate about open source projects and prioritize working with like-minded individuals.
  • I'm fluent in Haitian Creole, French, and English, with ongoing learning in Spanish.
  • I thrive in roles such as Engineering/Project Manager and Tech Lead, leveraging my experience to successfully complete projects. Outside of work, I enjoy dancing, writing, observing my cats and expressing my love for them.

Work Experience

I started coding websites at the age of 13, and I've been working professionally as a software developer for the past 13 years. I've worked on a variety of projects, including web applications, mobile applications, and cloud-based systems. Here are the top three companies I've worked for ↓

  • Untapped Global (Previously Untapped Inc.)
Architected and oversaw the development of an open source platform, SEMA, in Haiti while supporting a remote team in Uganda.
  • CompHaiti
Architected and led the development of a platform to digitize a country-wide store in Haiti, while managing a team of freelancers.
  • Aisle
Led UI/UX engineering at Aisle, a NYC-based text message marketing platform.

Open Source

I'm also an active contributor to open source software. I've contributed to a variety of projects, including web frameworks, libraries, and tools. I believe that open source is a powerful force for good in the world. Here are my three favorite open source projects ↓

  • Minishell
A relatively simple shell written in C.
  • SEMA Mobile App
A point-of-sale mobile application for Untapped Global. Built with React Native & Expo (I was an early adopter of this wonderful platform).
  • Plink-Plonk
An experimental Chrome extension that adds auditory debugging to web pages.
